Winter wheat sown.

Against the backdrop of the stunning scenery of South East Wexford the tractors were once more hard at work on Millknock farm today as 27 acres of winter wheat were being sown.
This was the scene visible from the upstairs window this morning as the field beyond the newly planted potatoes was ploughed in preparation for the sowing of winter wheat.
Seagulls flock to the freshly ploughed earth in search of worms, with Tacumshane Lake visible in the background.
The sower at work with Sigginstown Castle in the background, and the Saltee Islands just visible on the horizon.

Potato Planting

The field outside the kitchen window was planted with "Homeguard" potatoes today. Known as "first earlies", these will be among the first of the new potatoes when they are ready for harvesting in May. To ensure you get your new potatoes fresh from the field this year, book  your self catering holiday accommodation with us now!
The pictures show the process of planting the potatoes. The field was first plowed last Saturday. This morning the rotovator prepared the ground by breaking up the sods. This was followed by a de-stoner, which buried all the stones and larger pieces of clay, leaving a finely tilled soil for planting the potatoes. This ensures that the bags of potatoes you buy from the supermarket contain only potatoes! The final picture shows the potato planter placing the seed potatoes in drills.
