Millknock Farm is not your standard Irish self catering "cottage". With 6 bedrooms sleeping up to 12 people, a kitchen table big enough to seat 12, and a large garden, it is the perfect place for a group of friends, extended family, or a couple of families to get together for a self catering holiday.
Millknock, meaning the hill of the mill, is the name of a townsland in the parish of Tacumshane, Co. Wexford, south east Ireland. It was the site of a large dairy and beef farm until the end of the 20th century. Sheep and cattle can still be found on the land in the summer, as well as arable crops, but the farmyard is a very quiet place these days, making this the perfect place for a quiet get away.
The original farmhouse is now more than 200 years old, though it has been modernised and maintained to a high standard. It was first let as self catering holiday accommodation in 1999. Great pride is taken in our standards of cleanliness, and it is this, along with with the friendly welcome you will recieve here, that goes towards making your holiday as enjoyable and comfortable as possible.
The house is located within sight of Tacumshane Lake, which is one of Ireland’s finest bird watching sites. Anybody that rents the property from May to October will have to share the property with the housemartins that nest in the eaves of the house every year. You can watch them feeding their young without leaving the house!
Around the large garden you will also see blackbirds, pigeons, doves, pheasants, robins, swallows, great tits, blue tits and more.
Nearby is the village of Kilmore Quay, where boats can be chartered for fishing, or take a trip around the Saltee Islands. There are numerous golf courses in the vicinity. If you just want to relax, there are the extensive beaches of County Wexford, in Ireland’s “Sunny South East".
We are proud to be almost entirely self sufficient here at Millknock Farm, and often grow more than we can eat ourselves. This is how we can offer a selection of fresh, home grown, seasonal vegetables to our guests during their stay (subject to availability). We also grow gooseberries, rhubarb, apples, strawberries, raspberries, and blackberries. These fruits are used to make our own jam which is available exclusively to people renting the holiday home.
A sample pot of jam and a dozen fresly baked scones are provided to all guests on arrival at the house, along with tea, sugar, milk and butter.
